| Lewis catalyst | Zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate is the trifluoromethanesulfonate of zinc. It is usually used as a Lewis acid catalyst, for example for silylation reactions. Zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate is a white powder. Although it is commercially available, some researchers will prepare it by different methods. For example, it can be prepared by the reaction of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and metallic zinc in acetone, or by the reaction of zinc carbonate in methanol: Zn 2 HOTf→Zn (OTf)2 H2 ↑ ZnCO3 2 HOTf→Zn (OTf)2 H2O CO2 ↑ (OTf = CF3SO2) |
